How to Check Motherboard and RAM Information on Windows

Everything on this page applies to Microsoft Windows PCs and uses free CPUID software: CPU-Z for CPU information and HWMonitor for hardware monitoring.

Before buying memory or updating a BIOS you need the exact board and module details. CPU-Z reads them directly on Windows.

Motherboard information

  1. Open CPU-Z and select the Mainboard tab.
  2. Read the manufacturer, model and chipset.
  3. Check the BIOS brand, version and date.

RAM information

  1. Open the Memory tab for type, size, channels and timings.
  2. Open the SPD tab and pick a slot to see the module part number and SPD table.

The Graphics tab adds the GPU name, memory size and clocks, so a single CPU-Z window covers processor, board, memory and graphics information.
